This is the first official (not $2) DI$COUNT piece. Silver and gold leather, gold 80s buckle, and leopard print lining. It’s a variation of the Classic Biker made in some seriously special leather. As part of the Victorian State of Design Festival LOOK.STOP.SHOP trail, Alice Euphemia is hosting an event this Saturday the 24th at their store (Shop 6, Cathedral Arcade, 37 Swanston Street, Melbourne). As anyone from Melbourne would already be aware of, apart from being an amazing store, Alice Euphemia is an iconic establishment offering ongoing support to independent designers.

” The theme is ‘Fashion Doctors’  where patients (you) can bring in three garments to be revived, restyled and revamped by our expert panel of Fashion professionals!

Jo Cramer, Cami and Nadia from DI$COUNT, Dell Stewart and Nevada Duffy comprise the team of tailoring techs. Now taking appointments!

Please email cathedral@aliceeuphemia.com with all the required info – your name, number, preferred time and doctor (if any). Again, the Fashion Doctors will be in attendance next Saturday 24th July between 12pm and 5pm. Appointments are essential, no house calls! “

We were asked to take some photos using some medical paraphernalia, and as usual got a little bit over excited with the photos – espeically when we whipped out our ol’ zen suit friend again. Shame it’s such a memorable piece, and even with the lab coat and all we couldn’t manage to disguise it!

Thanks so much to Claire and Greg of Meadowlark jewelry for getting us involved in the limited edition blogger collection. Zana of Garbage Dress, Queen Michelle of Kingdom of Style and Jen of Gnarlitude were other bloggers included in the line up, all of which did a smashing job! It was thrilling to see our design come to life – especially considering jewelry making has completely different limitations and requirements to what we’re used to! The ring was exactly how we imagined it many months ago when we came up with the design, we thought about different placements for hand adornment, moving the anchor in a way that was still wearable/comfortable.
Meadowlark are uncompromising in quality and craftsmanship, so working with them was a breeze and the result is spectacular. It truly blew us away! There are 50 available, and we’d be honored if you bought one! It’s certainly not a throw away piece!

To be honest, this was not exactly our inspiration at all, but rather a fitting contextualization. The fashion industry may have you believe that the design process follows a strict series of steps from concept development and research, through to the final product.
It is not always like that, a lot of design comes from the heart and is intuitive, rather than researched for inspiration. Personally we find much of the time it’s a lot easier to articulate the real source of the design once it’s down on paper and you can decipher the references.
The visual connection between Dali’s quote, surrealism, art imitating life, and our design is pretty obvious – so probably no need to explain it any further! The inspiration for the piece was nothing in particular, but as always with design – absolutely everything.

We were clearly pretty excited and went a bit overboard with photos! Hope you enjoy!
