Saw that film, Ed Wood the other night, bit of a let down really. I thought it might be a bit more… I dunno – maybe the cast fooled me, Bill Murray, Johnny Depp… but no, I found myself glancing sideways at Kitty a bunch of times wondering if there was going to be any real point. Murray was still genius as usual, should have had a bigger role. I know it’s a true story and all but I just didn’t fall in love whatsoever. The best part was the character Vampira. But after searching aimlessly I couldn’t find images on the net of the bits where she had blonde hair – it was softly crimped and looked unreal with those eyebrows. Anyway, here’s her with the black hair and one I found with a shaved head, oddly enough. One day, I may attempt that look.
Another thing, how fucking annoying is it when you can’t find what you’re looking for on the net?! I was under the impression that it could provide photographic results for basically ANYTHING at all, like seriously, you could be looking for golden elephant shaped napkin rings in Spain, whatever the fuck. I watched that The Cook The Thief His Wife and Her Lover the other week and wanted to post about the Gaultier costumes and couldn’t find shit. Devastating. Screen shots it is. If only I could figure out how to fix the region code lock on my computer – who watches region 1 anyway!?!

That last image of Vampira as an old woman is gold! It’s amazing what isn’t available on the web – more scanning and uploading please!
After all its hype as a camp classic (cardboard graveyards, visible string on the “flying” saucers) I thought Plan 9 was honestly so bad it’s bad so no surprise Ed Wood is a bit off.
What an amazing looking woman. Her waist! I;d love to have a waist like that. know where you can get a good corset these days?
She was a true force to be reckoned with.

One of my earliest blog posts was on Vampira. . . what an amazing woman!! Check out this youtube clip of Maila Nurmi being interviewed about her alter ego . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Juk2VKQ2rY&feature=player_embedded
Wow… that’s an interesting clip. It’s amazing how an alter ego is nurtured through embracing the parts of a persons character that are the most insecure – because it seems that person becomes a whole separate entity, or true double identity. It seems it’s out of necessity almost that these characters are born. It would be kinda nice to have two people to run between… when you get tired of one, there is always someone entirely different to play…
Wow, I was just thinking about Vampira! It’s so great to find this collection of photos of her. I especially like the one where she’s old. I’ll be hunting about for blond pictures of her.
well, finding movie stills can be uite a drag, so you can simply put on a dvd and pause and just photograph. like I did for that Clash movie Rude Boy: http://batteredcouture.blogspot.com/2010/02/rude-boy.html
wow, i’ve never seen that one with the shaved head before. but it’s funny how we get used to finding the strangest things and then when we can’t find something it just feels WRong! haha
